Maine – Utterly predictable. Rather than comply with the latest in a long string of rulings against them, the National Organization For Marriage (NOM) is appealing this last ruling requiring them to disclose to voters who is funding their ads and campaigns. Shhh… don’t tell them we already know. NOM’s Maggie Gallagher and Brian Brown, [...]

Olympia, Washington – The United States Supreme Court has just refused to hear a case brought by an anti-assisted suicide group in Washington State over the constitutionality of state laws requiring donor-disclosures. NOM is screwed if they can’t get SCOTUS to hear the same case. The National Organization For Marriage just lost a case in Maine over the constitutionality [...]

Arizona – Last year the Arizona Legislature passed a measure stripping same-sex couples of benefits. The bill was overturned in federal court as unconstitutional, but Arizona isn’t giving up. They’ve just filed an appeal of the ruling, trying once again to strip citizens of rights. Same-sex partners of state employees are at risk of losing [...]

Yesterday, we posted about Mormon-controlled NOM demanding that Judge Stephen Reinhardt recuse himself because his wife works as the executive director of a Southern California chapter of the ACLU. Judge Reinhardt just released his decision: Not a chance. NOM’s claim was that because the ACLU had filed an amicus brief on behalf of “No On [...]

Back in September, US District Court Judge Ronald Leighton ruled that DADT was unconstitutional and the Airforce must reinstate former Maj. Margaret Witt. That ruling was appealed today by the Department of Justice and the Obama Administration. One highlight in this though. In the appeal there was no request for a stay on the decision. [...]

As expected, the Department of Justice and the Obama Administration have filed an emergency request for stay on Judge Phillips’ DADT Ruling with the appellate court. If granted, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell will be back in effect until the appeal is ruled on. Couldn’t last forever I suppose.. here’s a copy of the stay. PPM143_101020_dadt_stay

The Obama Administration has just filed a notice of appeal in Massachussettes, seeking to defend the Defense Of Marriage Act against a Judge who ruled it unconstitutional back in July. Still waiting to see our ‘fierce advocate’ leap into action. This is why I hate the two-party system. The Republicans openly fight against our rights, [...]

Congressman Jared Polis (D) of Colorado has sent a letter to President Obama, signed by 68 other members of Congress, demanding that he direct the Department of Justice to abandon all defense of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
