Maggie Gallagher’s Testimony Convinces A Senator To Vote FOR Marriage Equality

Posted By on February 9, 2011

Maryland – The Senate Judicial Proceedings committee heard 7 hours of testimony last night on whether or not to legalize gay marriage, including from NOM’s Maggie Gallagher. Now one Senator, who was previously a foe, has said her testimony convinced him to support marriage equality.

Senator James Brochin (D) was one of the few Democrat Senators who was opposed to gay marriage. But after listening to testimony from Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization For Marriage (NOM), he’s said that her “demonization” of gay families has convinced him that he should side with marriage equality.

Well done Maggie!

Baltimore Sun:

Baltimore County Sen. James Brochin found the testimony Tuesday by opponents of gay marriage “troubling,” and said this morning that he may support the bill. The Baltimore County Democrat had previously said he was against same-sex marriage.

“The demonization of gay families really bothered me,” Brochin said. “Are these families going to continue to be treated by the law as second class citizens?”

Oh, gosh. If this is the result of Maggie Gallagher’s ravings, then I say give the woman a megaphone and let her continue frothing away.
And kudos to Sen. Brochin for the question: “Are these families going to continue to be treated by the law as second class citizens?”
Clearly, he “gets it.” Now let’s see how long it will take for his re-election to be targeted for opposition by NOM and AFA.

My optimism for passage of the gay marriage bill in Maryland grows every day. Thank you Mr. Brochin for keeping an open mind and standing up against the kind of bigotry that others like Mrs. Gallagher represents

    Thanks for this GREAT article!

But I wish to correct your usage of the term “Democrat” as an adjective. “Democrat” is a noun, and the adjective is “Democratic.” Only the Enemy uses it in that way, and on purpose. Thanks.

This is great news, but Brochin still hasn’t committed to vote with us… he’s just stated that he’s moving from opposed to undecided. We still need folks calling his office: 410-823-7087
