Gay Republicans Honor Homophobe – And He Doesn’t Show

The Log Cabin Republicans announced a few weeks ago that they would be giving a national award to homophobe Texas Rep Pete Sessions tonight at a banquet honoring him and another conservative. Now Sessions has announced he won’t show and is sending an aide to pick up the award.
Wow… gay republicans honoring a man who is visciously against same sex marriage, gays serving openly in the military and is co-sponsoring a bill to repeal the 14th Amendment? Nice job Log Cabin.
Adding to the hilarity is that Sessions has caught so much flak from other conservatives that he isn’t even going to show up to the event, but told LCR that he’d send an aide to pick up his trophy.
Rep. Pete Sessions is sending an aide tonight to collect an award from the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay and lesbian group. He caught flak from social conservatives for accepting the invite, but Log Cabin leaders are taking no offense, saying the Dallas lawmaker–who chairs the party’s House campaign committee – seems to have a genuine last-minute scheduling conflict.
