Video- Gay Midvale Candidate Faces Bigotry From Some Voters
Posted By Eric Ethington (Author) on October 24, 2011
Midvale, Utah – Alan Anderson is an openly gay man running for City Council in Midvale District 3. But despite the fact that he’s running against an opponent who’s on probation after pleading guilty to fraud this year, there are still some voters who say on camera they won’t vote for him because he’s gay.
After PRIDEinUtah’s story a few days ago pointing out that the front runner for the small City Council race, Paul Hunt, is on probation over a fraud conviction, local news station Fox13 sent a reporter and camera down to Midvale to follow up on the issue. But what they found was more than a little shocking. On camera, some residents said that they were shocked to learn about Paul Hunt’s fraud conviction, but would probably still be voting for him come election day in a couple of weeks. Yet still others, like Rolando Alba, said that they were simply going to not vote this year, because “I don’t like gays and I don’t like robbers.”
Time to step up Utah. PRIDEinutah is officially endorsing Alan Anderson for Midvale City Council in District 3 and he needs your support! Take a moment and jump over to his website, anderson4midvale.com and through him a couple bucks or lend him a hand walking his district!

"Eric, trying to have this (civil rights) conversation with you is ultimately like trying to teach a pig to dance, it just annoys the pig. So Eric, sorry to annoy you."

Wow. That’s a tough call. While the guy that said “I don’t like gays and I don’t like robbers” is obviously spouting bigotry, I don’t know where I’d go on this one. I guess it ultimately depends on where the candidates stand on the issues. What are their respective positions on abortion? How about legalized homorrhage? It’s all about the family; everything else is just gravy.
If Anderson is actually engaged in homosexuality as opposed to simply being homosexuous, then it sounds like both candidates are involved in some unfortunate activities. As for me, though, it always comes down to the issues. I’d vote for a pro-choice “gay” person before I’d vote for a pro-abortion “straight” person.
Stupid. Ronald Alba man is an idiot. A robber is basically in the same lane as in fraud.
Interesting to me that today I read an amazing article on the small town of Moab hosting a gay Pride festival and 10% of the people who live there showed up and walked in the parade. Now I read that some of the small minded people of Midvale are voting for a criminal instead of a candidate who is gay. Gosh I wonder why the state of Utah has such a terrible rep for being small minded and bigoted!!!! I know so many people around Utah and I don’t find any of them to be this small minded.
To Jeff – Being in a gay relationship is NOT being involved in an unfortunate activity! It’s being who you are and loving who love. Unfortunate would be staying in hiding and preaching hate while all time knowing in your soul who you were born to be! Bravo to Anderson and good luck!!
