WI Governor Scott Walker: I Don’t Care If Gays Are In the Hospital

Posted By on July 1, 2011

Wisconsin – Governor Scott Walker has announced that he has a new crusade. In addition to his all out war against Unions, he also wants to target LGBT people who are in the hospital. In a new statement, he says he will fight to prevent partners from visiting in the hospital.

The times when you are hospitalized are when you are most vulnerable. You need comfort, care and those you love to be closest to you. But arch right-wing extremist Governor Scott Walker says that these moments are the best time to target LGBT people.

A state law, approved by both the state legislature and voters, from 2009 allows for same-sex couples to sign a Domestic Partner Registry and gives some benefits – including the right to visit your partner when in the hospital.

That law is now under fire from anti-gay hate groups, and Governor Walker and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen are refusing to defend the law.

In a brief filed by Walker’s attorney, he says that he “does not believe the public interest requires a continued defense of this law.”

The public interest does not require him to defend this law? Let’s ask Governor Walker how he would feel if his wife were hospitalized and he was not allowed to even see her as she lays dying alone in a hospital bed.

The stories are many of people who, after 30 years in a relationship, find themselves barred from even being able to hold the handsĀ  in their last moments together.
